BondageI was five years old when I tied myself up for the first time -- using my toy dogs' collars on my wrists and ankles. I can't remember what made me do it, but I can still feel a faint echo of the excitement of that first time whenever a pair of handcuffs snaps on my wrists. When I was a bit older, cowboys and injuns or cops and robbers games with the neighborhood kids provided great excuses to tie each other up. At night I would get into more and more elaborate self-bondage, imagining what it would be like to be pursued by the sheriff's posse and finally be caught and brought back to the town's jail: I would be exhausted from the chase and from struggling with my captors, dropping on the cot the moment the cell door clanked shut behind me and, happily still handcuffed, drift of to sleep and dream about what cowboys do to cattle rustlers. Bondage is still my biggest turn-on -- it's difficult for me to think about a good scene I've had that didn't involve some bondage at all. As with pretty much all SM I tend to top nearly all the time. I haven't done any self-bondage in a while, but here's a picture of me demonstrating temporarily inescapable self-bondage at a GMSMA Dungeon Demo in New York City. Self-bondage can be extremely dangerous unless you have a reliable release mechanism (otherwise I'd still be in that position, now!). Combining self-bondage with breath control is not just dangerous -- it is extremely foolish: every year at least 250 people die in the United States alone through accidents involving some form of autoerotic asphyxiation. Anyone who is interested in safe self-bondage but is inexperienced should look out for the two articles by David Stein from his Bound & Gagged safety column for which I acted as one of the advisers. The articles can be found on the Alternative Sexuality BDSM pages and at Steven Davis's FAQ Archive. Steven Davis's archive also holds David Stein's two-part piece on gag safety. For some reason or another Bound & Gagged no longer carry David Stein's column -- it's their loss and ours! Let Bound & Gagged know if you want to see his column again.
I have also become a fairly accomplished bondage top, teaching bondage courses and conducting workshops in London and New York, two even at the Stonewall 25 Leather Celebration. At Chicago Hellfire Club's Inferno I won several medals in bondage competitions. I travel a fair bit, so if you need someone to teach a bondage course or a workshop, get in touch -- particularly if you pay expenses. ;-)
